Peradventure
Instead of heading home immediately as planned, the party decide to try to secure the body from the foot of the minotaur statue without approaching closely enough to become its next victims.
Amity's grappling hook toss is accurate but proves to be enough to provoke the crumbling stone minotaur back into movement, slicing the rope with its massive stone axe and then immediately displaying its power by cracking apart a large stone pillar into dust with that same axe. The party flee back to town with thier prepared carts, settling for just the two bodies.
Back in Long Ridge, the townsfolk are waiting for them - including Elka Reed, the adult maiden daughter of the woman whose body was recovered, and Rhoswen Bauer, the wife of one of the villagers whose body was *not* recovered.
Rhoswen corners the party and asks if they checked in "the hole," which it turns out is a mysterious nearby location revealed to her by one of the local Que who had been scouting at her request - by the name of Mooneater.
Mooneater confirms what he found but warns the party against entering holes - revealing the horrors that befell him while exploring a mysterious hole in the past - but also revealing the location of another potential adventure location, on the border of Qualinost.
The party tentatively explore this nearby hole, and almost immediately discover the body of Joseph Bauer, who seemed to have dragged himself there after being victimized by one of the local giant vermin.
The also discover what seems to be a shabby, root cellar-like tomb, containing fragile clay figures, skeletons, and depictions, of a species of people tall, powerful, graceful, blue, and unknown to any of them.
The disturb some of the skeletons and are forced to battle with them. They discover an eroded passage to a lower level of the tomb. They further disturb the coffins and discover, along with treasures, a cloud of poison which sends them fleeing back to town.
Among minor treasures, they discover a MUNDANELY MAGICAL ROBE THAT NEVER WEARS and a MAGIC RING THEY DO NOT TEST.
