Peradventure
With Crowfoot and Breadington elsewhere, the party engage Rhona again to join them in further exploring the newly discovered Tomb. This time, with all of the villagers retrieved that will be, purely for their own enrichment.
Kirlov cheerfully tests out the MAGIC RING the party discovered last time, only for the equipped finger to transform into a poisonous, bifurcated claw. Eager to find an enemy to use it against, the push into the second level of the tomb, which seems a much more serious bit of construction, and truly ancient.
They discover a statue of the Ancient Peoples askew and behind it a secret door, claiming a few polearms and a mysterious, ominous religious icon. Lantern in hand, the explore further down the wide cooridor, coming on a large room with a sunken pool and a door on 7 of its 8 sides.
Tentatively poking at the pool with a metal pole, Lunethalas lures out two hideous, mummified, animated hands, which make their way up the pole to tear at his own hands. He smashes the pole to the ground and Amity and Kirilov finish them off, but Lunethalas can take no more and the party retreats for the day.
After a day under Kirilov's care, they return to the same spot - while processing the bad news that Kirlov's new magic ring is feeding poison into his system. Dredging the pool reveals, among its treasures, a MAGIC LANCE (+1, shifts between spear and horse lance length at the press of a button) and another MAGIC RING, which everyone is again hesitant to fuss with. Also, an ANGRY MUMMIFIED HEAD ETERNALLY SCREAMING IN AN UNKNOWN LANGUAGE, which they keep for further study above Amity's objections.
The party explores many of the doors around them, leaving the most ornate - with engravings depicting an apocalyptic seen of dragons from childhood stories - alone for now. They discover:
- A collapsed hallway with a weird thumping behind it
- a tomb that seems less well preserved than those around it, other than the one that's collapsed
- a chamber for priests, including 20 or so pages of scrolls with unknown script, another religious icon, etc
- an unfinished room with tools lying around
- a room with 18 clay statues of the Ancient Peoples in three lines
- A tomb with a large electrum plate behind it, opposite the entry. When they explore this one, Kirilov steps on a pressure plate, and the plate produces a lightning bolt that kills Lunethalas and Rhona instantly, nearly bringing down Kirilov as well. Two more uses of HEALING WATERS are consumed.
Returning hoime, the party eventually decides that there's nothing for it but to remove Kirilov's finger, since the ring isn't coming off. Amity and Kirlov are the first to gain levels from their adventures.
